01 — THE BRIEF
Shayp is a Brussels startup with an intelligent water monitoring device and platform that detects leaks, prevents water damage and optimises building performance. Partners build on its public API, and a data pipeline ingests what its connected objects report from enterprise buildings.
Over two years, as a full stack engineer, I worked on the pieces underneath that product: the public API, the multi-tenant architecture, the ingestion pipeline and the admin interface the customer experience team works in.
02 — WHAT WAS BUILT
Public API, rewritten
With one other developer, rewrote the public RESTful API in Django: a more stable and powerful API for partners, and one that is easier to iterate on.
White-label product
With the CTO and the team, re-architected the product as a white label, with a multi-tenant backend and frontend.
Ingestion pipeline
Improved the scalability, resiliency and availability of the data ingestion pipeline for enterprise connected objects.
03 — HOW
API rewrite
Two developers, one rewrite: the public RESTful API moved to Django, more stable and powerful for partners and easier to iterate on for us.
White label
Re-architected the product with the CTO and the team as a multi-tenant backend and frontend, so it could be offered as a white label.
Pipeline hardening
Improved the scalability, resiliency and availability of the data ingestion pipeline for enterprise connected objects.
Admin UI overhaul
Overhauled the admin UI, helping the customer experience team improve how they deliver support.
